The Hong Kong Expedition

The Hong Kong Expedition

-

Hong Kong, my favorite holiday destination. A complexed combination of good and bad.

-

True, it is a fact that Hongkies may sound rude to other people, but they don’t really mean what they say. There I met some of the most hospitable people on earth, who brought me to places there I have never known. I even had time for dating (hahaha)!

-

As an appetizer, we landed in the Guandong city of Macau to have a taste of the popular ‘Sin City’. I really liked playing baccarat. At first, we almost lost a few hundred dollars. But after dancing Macarena a couple of times while we were gambling, we managed to turn the tables.

-

After 2 days, we began our Hong Kong expedition. We tried everything local, as we wanted to experience how locals live there. The Hongkier the better! We ate the most unusual food, and tried the smelliest tofu in the city. The noodles there are nicer than what we got in Singapore and probably the Philippines. My mom said the local food we had were all nice, but deep in her heart she was craving for KFC (lol)!

-

The most recommended place, Lan Kwai Fong, is our favorite spot. We danced like nobody’s business, and had rounds and rounds of Hoegaarden. It was such an experience!

-Hoegaarden

A few days before we left, we met Donna, our Hongkie friend. She brought us to a steamboat resto, the Starferry, and a cool bar in IFC. I kinda felt ‘paiseh’ because she was on a tight schedule and she still managed to bring us around.

-

And the climax is when I met Chan Ka Wing. It was, erm, an experience.

-

I’ll definitely go back there in a few months! See you’all soon!

Bobby Goes Vista

-

-

I have a new laptop! A new Hp520!

-

This will be the first time I will be running on a Vista platform. First impressions? It’s got a nice presentation. Quite decent for a second computer. This will replace my old Toshiba notebook which already left this world.

-

Next week, I’ll bring it along to Hong Kong!

-

Cheers!

A few things that happened today

A few things that happened today

-

Well, today has been a fine day. I have signed another contract with SingTel, and my rank was upgraded to Retail Executive 2 (something like senior in layman’s term).

-

I also have pre-celebrated my birthday with my friends, Jean and Jairus. It’s just the usual chill-out.

-

And when I got back home, my day was climaxed by a letter from Mindef! While I was tearing the slip of paper, I was telling myself ‘Oh goodness! Don’t let me be the unlucky Permanent Resident who will suffer 2 years of military training. I had enough when I was younger (recalling my military service back in the Philippines)!’

-

But good prayers are always heard. It was an exemption letter.

-

Lucky (lol)!

Handset Upgrade : iPod or N95?

Handset Upgrade : iPod or N95?

-

My O2 Atom has come to a point of deminishing return.

-

It has been a good organiser, but it’s also been a bad phone. There were times when you got no reception, and you don’t even know it. Fair enough, it didn’t hang as much as what other users’ told me.

-

But before I lament in trading in this phone, I’d think first of a good replacement. And there are two of ‘em. The revolutionary (iCandy) iPhone, and the ‘what computers have become’ N95.

-

Update: A good phone with a good number would be even better. At the end of the year, my number will be changed into a golden number. (Chums, please update my contact information).

-

iPhone was the primary choice, of course. Who won’t fall in love with this chic phone? Unless you’re a retard, then you’re excused.

-

But certain things made me think first. Firstly, I don’t wanna be labelled ‘high-flyer’ just for buying this phone, spending hundreds of bucks just to be called as such. Secondly, I won’t be able to use some important functions. The cam for example wouldn’t be as sharp as N95’s 5 megapixel killer camera. And it’s not a 3G phone (who care’s about video call anyway?). Lastly, there’s no warranty. Should I risk?

-

All of these can be resolved by going for the less attractive, value-for-money N95. There’s only one concern. I do not wish to regret buying a ’second’ choice (I didn’t really care about phones before, ’til this day).

-

What’s next?

Happy Birthday Michelle!

-

Today is a special day for the one of my most valuable colleagues in Comcentre, Michelle Lim.

-

It’s her 27th birthday!

-

I wasn’t able to catch up with the party in East Coast, so I really am feeling paiseh. I can’t sleep because of this. Anyway, I’ll arrange for our own party. We will party hard, until everyone surrenders!

-

All the best, Michelle!

Christmas with Family

-

This will definitely be an exciting Christmas! And that’s not all. The family will be celebrating birthdays in Singapore as well. My mom and dad will be arriving on my mom’s birthday (6 December), and the day after that is my dad’s birthday. And the day after that is Nino’s birthday. And the day after the day after the day after my mom’s birthday is my supposed birthday (9 December).

-

And that’s not all! We will be having our new year in Hong Kong as well!!! Wohoo!!!

-

This will also mark my 3rd year in Singapore, and my 10th year in the service industry.

-

Happy Holidays!

Act Smart Buay Smart

Act Smart Buay Smart

-

I really don’t know why there are people who like to act smart. They like to tell others what to do, and make things more complex.

-

There’s this fellow in office who wanted to be labelled ’smart guy’. But no matter what he does, he can’t impress me. And at times, I’m annoyed by what he’s doing.

-

One time, I was clearing emails inside store room, this fellow came up from nowhere and stood at my back. He was giving me instructions on what to do as if he’s more senior than me. Yeah, right. If only I could tell him ‘You’re just another asshole!’.

-

Maybe I guess there will always be assholes in this world, and we can’t help it.

Racism and Stereotypes

Racism and Stereotypes

-Maid

-

-

Are you a Filipino?

-

Are you sensitive to comments about your race?

-

It’s a natural fact that our population is very large, and it’s unavoidable for many of us to work as maids, nurses, midwives. So we can’t blame others from stereotyping us as such. I think it’s ok to have a national pride and everything, but not to the extent that we are not able to adapt to reality.

--

For example, there’s this nice youtube video made by a Chinese Singaporean about a maid portraying Imelda Marcos, you can see that a lot of Filipino viewers left hateful remarks there. There’s this paranoid thinking that we’re being degraded. What’s going on?

-

Fortunately, educated Filipinos know how to react on these issues.

-

We’re making fun of other races, but we don’t want to be laughed at. Life should be fair. There will always be negative and constructive comments about us, and I don’t mind hearing any of these.

-

Most Filipinos hate being stereotyped as maids. We can’t deny the truth. Anyway, Filipino maids are still Filipinos and I don’t see the reason why they should be seperated from our society.

-

I hope next time something happens, most of us will respond in an educated, civilised manner.

-

Mabuhay!

When you can’t beat the odds

October 4th, 2007 by bobby27ph

When you can’t beat the odds.

-

You just need to follow one rule, ‘Never harm yourself!’.

-

There will be a point in time when you’ll be so down that no one can help you. Not even yourself. But no matter what choices there may be, choose something that won’t destroy you in the future.

-

It’s an advice based on experience.

-

Cheers!

2 to 4 pm : The most boring time of the day

October 4th, 2007 by bobby27ph

2 to 4 pm : The most boring time of the day

-

During this period, it’s either I’m sleeping, or I’m yawning in front of a customer. It’s the time of the day when you can’t even go out cos it’s to hot outside. It’s also the time when you usually get hungry when you haven’t had your lunch, right?

-

Coincidentally, I’m writing this blog about this whole thing.

-

Usually, at this point in time, I’m just sound tripping, or maybe I’m just watching funny videos from youtube. In some cases, I just play guitar and sing at the top of my lungs (hahaha).

-

What to do? (Dunno leh)

-

After this boring ‘2 to 4 pm’ period, there’s excitement! It could either be you’re about to huay cha (go home), or you’re preparing for your chiong in the evening.

-

Maybe that’s why there’s boredom, you won’t know how to cheer up if you don’t know how to be bored.

-

Actually, I was supposed to collect my NRIC at the immigration but I didn’t want the issue date to be 4th of October. So here I am, at home, trying to entertain myself the best I could.

-

I wish I have a lovelife (hahaha)!
